Let Summer Break Begin!!
We kicked off our first day of summer vacation by whipping up a Sand Cake. We used this recipe from myrecipes.com.

Happy Birthday Chaos!
Happy 2nd Birthday to my little man!
We celebrated a day early so Daddy could be home for the fun! We made this awesome burger and fries cake for him. It was so easy and turned out SO cute!
The buns are yellow cake frosted with a mixture of cream cheese and chocolate frosting (to give the tan color). The sesame seeds are Rice Krispies. For the "burger" we used chocolate cake and decorated it with Fruit RollUps (yellow for cheese and green for lettuce). We added red and yellow icing for ketchup and mustard. The fries are leftover slices of yellow cake (from trimming the rounded top from the bottom bun) with red "ketchup" icing.
Chaos had a GREAT time (and so did we). I really can't believe he's 2 years old already!!

Pinky's Caterpillar Party
Yesterday was Pinky's very first "friends only" birthday party. With a birthday on Christmas Day, parties are always going to be tricky. Up until this point we've avoided the issue altogether, but this year Pinky asked to have a party, and we couldn't say no.
We chose a local yoga studio for the party location. It was so much fun! Pinky wanted a caterpillar/butterfly theme so, after searching the internet for a bit, we decided to make a version of The Very Hungry Caterpillar for her cupcakes.
His head fell apart a bit during transport, but I still think it turned out cute! All the cupcakes were egg, milk, and soy free because a few of her friends had food allergies (we've been through that with both of the older kids as well). They tasted great and none of the non-allergy kids even knew there was anything different about them.
The party itself was a big hit. We started with some yoga, did a butterfly craft (even Chaos joined in the fun), played games, ate cupcakes and opened presents.
She even got her very own unicorn from one of her friends. I'm pretty sure this little guy will be going everywhere with us from now on!

Birthday Cake = Fail
Today is my sweet, sweet husband's birthday. Of course, the kids and I thought we should bake him a cake to celebrate. Pinky wanted to make him a PINK cake. She chose a very delicious and beautiful strawberry cake.
Now, I'm not much of a cook, but I can usually bake things okay. If you read my post about Pinky's rainbow cake you will now completely understand why I was so excited about how it turned out.

And this is what is supposed to look like:
This, ladies and gentlemen, is what our cake looked like (warning, not for the faint of heart):
These pictures were taken after the top layer completely slid off the rest of the cake onto the counter, while the middle layer slid lazily to the opposite side. The large pointy things in the middle? Nope, not candles. Wooden skewers to hold the cake together.
It's the thought that counts right? Maybe I can just say that Chaos iced the cake. For as pathetic as it looks, it sure tastes good! And that's all that matters to me. :)

Happy Birthday Pinky!
Happy 3rd Birthday my little angel!!
One of our traditions on Pinky's birthday is that I make her a cake every year. This year she said she wanted a rainbow cake with rainbow sprinkles. After thinking about it for a long time, I came up with a game plan. Here are the results:

Pinky, if possible, was even more thrilled than I was with how this turned out. As a bonus, it only used one box of white cake mix and less than one tub of frosting. It was very, very simple to make. By far the best cake yet. (And for those of you thinking "Wow, it's really not that fantastic." well, you never saw the butterfly cake I attempted on her first birthday.)
