Both Pinky and Chaos LOVE sensory activities. According to her preschool teachers, Pinky spends much of her free time at school playing in the sensory tub. So, when I saw this activity at No Time For Flashcards, I knew it would be perfect for my little sensory lovers.
We chose to paint snowmen - one of our favorite winter icons. I mixed 3 parts shaving cream with 1 part Elmer's Glue and gave the kids an assortment of decorations to choose from for their snowmen (buttons, felt, yarn, googly eyes, etc.). I then drew a rough outline of a snowman on cardboard (from a cereal box). I had planned to use paper grocery bags, but couldn't find any (that's another story). The cardboard worked perfectly though. If you try this, you will need a sturdy paper - the "paint" is heavy.
Chaos wasn't too sure what to think of the "paint" at first.
Pinky dove right in!
Chaos warns that this is NOT a neat activity. Be sure to wear old clothes!
Playing in the mixture was half the fun.
The neat part of this activity is that because the shaving cream is mixed with glue, you don't need additional glue to hold the embellishments in place. You can stick them right on top of your picture.
They take awhile to dry (The No Time For Flashcards site says several hours...ours are mostly dry after about 2 hours). The "paint" dries puffy. Here's how ours turned out:
Pinky's is on the left, Chaos' on the right. I will cut them out when they are completely dry. Aren't they cute?
